Bringing you new films from world-class festivals
This year’s Slovak Queer Film Festival will present 35 feature-length films in four different sections. Contemporary Film follows the varied forms of current queer cinema around the world. Many of the section’s films have made a major impact at international film festivals, queer and otherwise. Screened at the Venice Film Festival, the Italian film L’immensità stars adored actress Penelope Cruz as the mother of a transgender child in 1970s Rome. Presented at the 2023 Berlinale and Sundance Film Festival, Mutt introduces audiences to a transgender man named Feña in a complicated situation, when those who abandoned him during his transition suddenly reappear in his life. Our festival is screening several films from the Berlinale, including Femme and Sisi & I. We will also present the French film Marinette, the biopic of Marinette Pichon, the first female French footballer to make it into the American women’s league.
